Infertlity Support Group

The Infertility Support Group this morning was amazing! (of course I didn’t think to bring my camera) I could not have been more impressed with Dr. B. and his casual conversation with the women of the group. He seemed so understanding to what we are all going through. Not only that but he didn’t seem to be in any hurry to finish up the meeting. He took his time discussing all of our situations, IF, miscarriage, male infertility, adoption, etc. You can tell that he really was hopeful for us girls. He even brought a few relics for us to venerate. Wasn’t that thoughtful? This was my first time going to this meeting and all the girls were so nice!!! I really believe it was providential for Dr. B to be there today. Thank you Dr. B. These are the things he recommended for me during the meeting (I can’t remember everything but this is what stuck in my head)

1. That I take a combination of Synthroid and Slow release T3 as long as my TSH levels are under 2 (wait or was it over 2) anyone remember this?
2. That I should follow a macrobiotic diet because I have endometriosis.
3. Also, it is o.k. to have my morning cup of coffee WOO-HOO!
4. Since I am going to be going on the hydrocort next cycle I was concerned if I can still take Clomid with hydrocort. Dr. B says absolutely (Dr. H.ilgers told me NO WAY) Who would you listen to?
5. He also recommended I take pathogenic acid, valerian tea, Vit. C, and some other things I can’t remember.

I was really exhausted after the meeting because I feel like discussing such an emotional topic of IF is draining. So I came home and napped. Now I have just been busy figuring out what a macrobiotic diet is…sounds very similar to the endo diet but it seems like there are a lot more recipe books out there for it. I swear I could start a library with all the diet books I have collected.

Well, I also wanted to say that Dh and I got our blood results back with the chromosome test and we are not pre-disposed to miscarriage. So, we are a good match chromosomally. That is good news!

  1. I would agree with DR B about taking the clomid and cortisol. I'm taking hc and taking femara this cycle, no problemo!

I would also imagine he's taking about your TSH being under 2 if it's over 2 you are seriously under medicated.

I'm glad you had a great meeting!

  2. That is awesome! Those macrobiotic diets are what all the celebrities are on! I think now is a great time for a diet like that considering the farmer's market is open. But the veggies don't taste that good in the winter. :(

I am glad you guys had such a great meeting!

  4. Congrats on getting through the job conversation! I don't think there's something wrong with you being nervous - I don't usually have a problem being blunt about things, but I felt like I was going to the firing squad telling my old boss that I would be leaving.

It's awesome that the doctor spent so much time with you all. Macrobiotic diet for endo, you say? Well, maybe I'll look into that too...I keep saying that...I'd rather TRIM or ALTER my diet than stop eating everything I eat now and start eating entirely different things. All you guys who are willing to make such radical changes are a lot more adventuresome than I am.

  5. The marcrobiotic diet sounds like the usual "eat right and eat sensibly" thing I've been hearing about all along. Fruits, veggies, whole grains, and a minimum of processed food. I'm sure there's more to it than that, though.

Good news on getting through breaking the news to your employer. I don't handle stress well either. I know I'd have felt the same way you did before you approached her. It's always a relief when it's behind you.

  6. I mainly came over here today to say that it was very nice to meet you on Saturday and that I'm looking forward to getting to know you better latter in the summer. Paul's been working non-stop since we got home so I don't want to ask him about the notes from the group until Saturday but I will e-mail them out this weekend.

Congratulations on telling your boss! I'm the same way with big stress, I get shaky, nauseous and have to run to the lieu about every 10 minutes.

  7. Dr. H also had me stop taking my Femara while on HC. But I begged them for it at my cycle review, because my last 3 cycles (3 cycles on HC and no ovulation meds), my progesterone was lower than optimal. AND I had all that horrible pre-menstrual spotting last cycle. The nurse just got back to me last night to say Dr. Hilgers has approved it in my case, but that I have to make sure I get my P+7 b/w to make sure I'm not hyperstimulating. I told her, I'll do even better than that- I'll get an u/s pre-Peak to make sure I don't have too many follicles.

But my point is, I think Dr. H just likes to take it on a case-by-case basis. He knows that HC with ovulation meds CAN cause hyperstimulation, so before he just says, "Oh, it's fine" for anyone, he wants to make sure they actually NEED the ovulation med after HC.

  8. Amber - just wanted to stop by and say I am about 1/2 with Dian Mills' book. It is very interesting. I think we are gonna make the food changes she suggests... we eat really well, however, I can see how some things will do more harm to my type of body. Did you read the part of endo in your NOSE. This stuff is CRAZY! I do get nose bleeds often, and never linked the two. UGH! Hope you are feeling better. I'll keep you posted on the diet situation. When I am finished with the book, maybe we can challenge one another? :)
